{"id":11001,"date":"2018-08-30T07:06:04","date_gmt":"2018-08-30T07:06:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinegh.com\/?p=11001"},"modified":"2018-08-30T07:06:45","modified_gmt":"2018-08-30T07:06:45","slug":"70-of-ghanaians-are-christians-national-cathedral-in-order-bishop-titi-offei","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/?p=11001","title":{"rendered":"70% of Ghanaians are Christians, National Cathedral in order \u2013 Bishop Titi-Offei"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11002\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinegh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/59900490.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"346\" height=\"481\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/59900490.jpg 346w, https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/59900490-216x300.jpg 216w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 346px) 100vw, 346px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>General Secretary of the National Association of Charismatic and Christian Churches (NACCC), Bishop Gideon Yoofi Titi Offei, believes that there is nothing wrong with building a national Cathedral for a country which is dominated by Christians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving a national cathedral for 70 percent of the population, I think it is in the right direction\u201d, he satetd.<\/p>\n<p>Government is bent on constructing a national Cathedral to serve as a national non-denominational Christian worship centre for Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>The building of the Cathedral has caused an uproar in the country with some citizens accusing government of having misplaced priorities as well as wasting the taxpayer\u2019s money.<\/p>\n<p>In the long term, the government will\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/2018\/08\/28\/we-might-change-location-of-national-cathedral-rev-opuni-frimpong\/\"><strong>put up new structures<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0for judges at Cantonments whose residence may be affected by the project.<\/p>\n<p>But speaking on\u00a0Eyewitness New son Wednesday, Bishop Titi-Offei indicated that Ghana has been able to make significant strides due to the role of the Christian community, hence government\u2019s plan to construct a national cathedral is not out of place.<\/p>\n<p>He recounted the number of developmental projects the Christian groups have undertaken in the education and health sectors over the years.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt is important for us to note that, the Christian community in this country has played a very major role historically towards the development of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Christian community are partners of all government to ensure development. 70 percent of Ghanaians are Christians; we built hospitals, schools, universities just to contribute to national development\u201d, the reverend minister mentioned.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ll2G0rKhykc\" width=\"1349\" height=\"480\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018Build national shrine for traditionalists, mosque for Muslims too\u2019 \u2013 Suhuyini<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>National Democratic Congress [NDC] Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini, wants the Akufo-Addo government to facilitate the construction of a national center of worship for other religious groups in the country.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIf that\u2019s government\u2019s decision and they find it important, I have nothing against it. But you see, this is not a decision by the Christian community. It is a decision of the government to give them a national cathedral. Maybe when they finish, they will give us too a national mosque, and they will give the traditional believers a national shrine too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey do not have to wait for another faith to ask. Just like how they have taken this decision to dash a national cathedral to the Christian community, we expect them to do that. It should not be about another faith asking.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Clergy, gov\u2019t defer decision on controversial National Cathedral project<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Government and the clergy could not take a decisive resolution on how to proceed with the controversial National Cathedral project although the issue was raised at a breakfast meeting at the Jubilee House.<\/p>\n<p>According to the clergy, the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral project were yet to meet and come to a consensus on the matter, hence they could not make conclusions at the breakfast meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Victor Osei, Vice Chairman of the Association of Charismatic and Christian Churches, said the Board of Trustees will hold a meeting next week to agree on the way forward.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cSometimes it is better to let the fire come down before you come out and make certain statements. In the midst of flames, people say a lot of things. If you go to Nigeria, there is a National Cathedral, there is a National Muslim Cathedral.
