A search has been called off for a German pop singer who went missing from a cruise ship off Canada\u2019s Atlantic coast.<\/p>\n
A spokesman for Aida Cruises, which operates the AidaLuna vessel, said it suspected Daniel K\u00fcblb\u00f6ck, 33, had jumped overboard on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n
The ship was heading towards St John\u2019s, Newfoundland, at the time.<\/p>\n
The AidaLuna stopped and returned to where the incident happened following a cabin search.<\/p>\n
The case has now been handed over to police as a missing person file.<\/p>\n
The Canadian Armed Forces said in a statement that the \u201cdifficult decision\u201d was taken to end the search on Monday morning \u201cgiven the short survivability time due to the temperature of the water at this time of year\u201d.<\/p>\n
Coast guard vessels and military aircraft were deployed to assist in the search for the missing man.<\/p>\n
The search was focused on a region about 200 km (125 miles) north of St John\u2019s.<\/p>\n
An eyewitness quoted by Bild newspaper supported the report that Mr K\u00fcblb\u00f6ck, who was travelling alone, had jumped from a deck.<\/p>\n
The cruise ship was on a 16-day trip, leaving Hamburg, Germany, on 29 August. It is scheduled to arrive in New York on 14 September.<\/p>\n
Aida Cruises said on Twitter that \u201cour thoughts with the family of the missing\u201d.<\/p>\n
Mr K\u00fcblb\u00f6ck came to fame as a contestant in the talent show Germany Seeks the Superstar in 2003.<\/p>\n
He has since appeared on a number of reality television shows, including Let\u2019s Dance in 2015.<\/p>\n
