Metro TV Ghana, a privately owned free to air television station in Ghana has laid off 45 staff, MyNews has confirmed.<\/p>\n
Sources within the company disclosed that the affected persons who are support staff of the company were laid off last week and there are reports more could go this week.<\/p>\n
It is gathered that the local union-led them to demand voluntary redundancy from the Group, which was granted by management at a time it is preparing to roll out new programs for its viewers as parts of efforts to reposition themselves in the market.<\/p>\n
This comes barely a week after TV3 Network owned by Media General Group also fired 25 staff in its latest retrenchment exercise.<\/p>\n
Affected staff according to MyNewsGh.com sources, started receiving their dismissal letters on Friday October 26, 2018 with notable persons like Station Head of 3FM, Ackah Kwarteng affected.<\/p>\n
So far some staff of Onua FM, 3Fm and Marketing Department have been given letters and will also receive a two-month salary in lieu of notice contrary to the labour laws which indicates requires a three-months salary in lieu of notice.<\/p>\n
Background<\/strong><\/p>\n Metro TV since its inception in 1997, successfully established its brand as Ghana\u2019s second largest broadcasting station, by providing national coverage to all Ten Regional Capitals in Ghana.<\/p>\n Metro TV over the last couple of years have had turbulent times.
