{"id":13885,"date":"2019-01-10T07:49:41","date_gmt":"2019-01-10T07:49:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinegh.com\/?p=13885"},"modified":"2019-01-10T07:49:41","modified_gmt":"2019-01-10T07:49:41","slug":"menzgold-customers-laud-govt-for-nam1-arrest-warrant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/?p=13885","title":{"rendered":"Menzgold customers laud gov\u2019t for NAM1 arrest warrant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11501\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinegh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/nana-appiah-mensah-nice-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"535\" height=\"393\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/nana-appiah-mensah-nice-1.png 535w, https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/nana-appiah-mensah-nice-1-408x300.png 408w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 535px) 100vw, 535px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Customers of troubled gold dealership company, Menzgold Ghana Limited, have applauded the government for stepping in to get an arrest warrant for the company\u2019s CEO, Nana Appiah Mensah.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyer for the aggrieved customers, Amanda Clinton in a\u00a0Citi News\u00a0interview said they are excited that the government now appears interested in ensuring justice for the numerous customers of the company whose investments have been locked up and the CEO is nowhere to be found.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe system is unbelievably delayed in terms of EOCO\u2019s formal criminal complaint from the 14<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0of August, but we are very grateful that the government appeared to have moved past the posture of greedy people to bringing people to justice,\u201d she said. \u00a0<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>An Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday issued a\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/2019\/01\/09\/court-issues-warrant-for-arrest-of-nam1\/\">warrant for the arrest<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0of the embattled company founder, who is popularly known as NAM1.<\/p>\n<p>He has been accused of the offense of defrauding by false pretense contrary to section 131 of Act 29\/60.<\/p>\n<p>Two other individuals, Benedicta Appiah and Rose Tetteh,\u00a0are also to be arrested by the police.<\/p>\n<p>According to private legal practitioner, Gabby Asare Otchere Darko, who\u2019s a known figure in the governing New Patriotic Party, Mr. Appiah Mensah was arrested earlier, but absconded while on bail.<\/p>\n<p>The issue of the warrant comes on the back of a demonstration in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, by some angry Menzgold customers who burnt vehicle tyres and blocked a major road.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_fK5ZDcN7I0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>There is currently no details about his whereabouts, but earlier reports said he moved with his family to South Africa in December 2018, and may have moved to Nigeria subsequently.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Menzgold\u2019s challenges<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 2018, over two hundred customers of Menzgold customers besieged the premises of the company\u2019s head office at Dzorwulu to demand payment of their locked up investments.<\/p>\n<p>On December 19, some 100\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/2018\/12\/19\/kasoa-police-officers-sue-menzgold-to-retrieve-locked-up-cash\/\"><strong>retired and active Police Officers<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0at the Kasoa Divisional Police Command in the Central Region also filed a writ at the Accra High Court against the company.<\/p>\n<p>Menzgold was asked to suspend its gold trading operations with the public by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).<\/p>\n<p>According to the SEC, Menzgold had been dealing in the purchase and deposit of gold collectables from the public and issuing contracts with guaranteed returns with clients, without a valid license from the Commission.<\/p>\n<p>This, the SEC said was in contravention of \u201csection 109 of Act 929 with consequences under section 2016 (I) of the same Act.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The company was however cleared to continue its \u201cother businesses of assaying, purchasing gold from small-scale miners and export of gold.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Despite initial protests, Menzgold complied with the directive. It has however failed to fully pay its numerous aggrieved customers the value on their gold deposits as well as their entire investments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Call for government\u2019s intervention<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A lot of Ghanaians had called for government\u2019s intervention in dealing with Menzgold\u2019s founder who has failed to pay back monies to his customers.<\/p>\n<p>The lawyer for some aggrieved customers of Menzgold Ghana Company Limited, Amanda Clinton, says the company will be hit with a\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/2019\/01\/09\/well-sue-menzgold-for-breach-of-contract-lawyer-amanda-clinton\/\">lawsuit<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0for breach of contract.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on\u00a0Eyewitness News, Mrs. Clinton said \u00a0her clients will soon be in court to \u201cfile applications of breach of contract.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2013<\/p>\n<p>Source: Citinewsroom.com<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Customers of troubled gold dealership company, Menzgold Ghana Limited, have applauded the government for stepping in to get an arrest warrant for the company\u2019s CEO, Nana Appiah Mensah.
