A\u00a05:00 pm to 7:00 am curfew has been imposed on the\u00a0Yendi Township by the\u00a0Minister for the Interior.<\/p>\n
The curfew follows the selection of a new person to become the Yaa-Naa of the Dagbon Kingdom on Friday evening.<\/p>\n
The Ministry said reports indicated that there was a likelihood of high tension because of the presence of different factions and large numbers in Yendi.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe imposition of the curfew follows various reports gathered by security agencies indicating that there is very likely to be high tension in the township with large numbers of supporters of the various gates and factions all gathering in Yendi.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cGovernment urges the chiefs, opinion leaders, youth and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area.\u201d<\/p>\n
There is also a total ban on all persons in the Yendi Township and surrounding areas from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons.<\/p>\n
\u201cAny persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted,\u201d the Ministry warned.<\/p>\n
Though the start of the funeral was marred by violence last week, the township was able to overcome the tensions to see the funeral to a climax on Friday.<\/p>\n
The final rites to bring an end to the funeral of the late Dagbon overlord,\u00a0Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II, were performed today.<\/p>\n
A week ago, the town was on almost in flames after\u00a0two days of violence<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0resulted in two deaths and multiple injuries.<\/p>\n
