{"id":15387,"date":"2020-06-12T18:05:28","date_gmt":"2020-06-12T18:05:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinegh.com\/?p=15387"},"modified":"2020-06-12T18:05:30","modified_gmt":"2020-06-12T18:05:30","slug":"our-position-against-ec-on-new-voters-register-unchanged-sammy-gyamfi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/?p=15387","title":{"rendered":"Our position against EC on new voters\u2019 register unchanged-Sammy Gyamfi"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says its position against the Electoral Commission(EC)&nbsp; not to compile a new voters\u2019 register has not changed contrary to what was purported to have been pleaded in court.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Supreme Court Thursday(June 11, 2020)&nbsp; offered the NDC two reliefs to choose one, which it opted for the use of the existing voters\u2019 ID card to register in the upcoming voter\u2019s registration exercise.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Supreme Court will on June 23 , 2020 give a ruling as to whether the EC can accommodate the existing voters\u2019 ID as a requirement for obtaining a new voters\u2019 ID card during the upcoming voters\u2019 registration exercise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the National Communications Officer of the opposition NDC said \u201cOur opposition to the EC\u2019s decision to compile a new register has not changed\u201d, he spoke on Joy FM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor us that issue of the EC issuing new voters ID cards for the December 7 elections has moved on because in the wisdom of the Justices of the Supreme Court, we needed to elect one of the two reliefs we were praying for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have made that choice; they have adjourned the matter to the 23<sup>rd<\/sup>&nbsp;of this month to give their ruling and that is what we are waiting for. We will wait for that ruling and thereafter advise ourselves accordingly. But we are really optimistic that the relief we are praying for will be granted.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He further said: \u201cThe law is in the bosom of the judge, and here we are not just only talking about any judge but we are talking about the Justices of the apex court of the land. They said that you need to elect which one of these two reliefs you are going to rely on and that we are not going to allow the two reliefs to be done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat were they expecting us to do, to argue with the justices of the supreme court?
