Social Commentator, Kwame A Plus has advised that the 10-year jail term to people who fail to put on their nose mask should rather be directed at appointees of government who steal from the coffers of the country.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Persons who fail to wear face masks in public could face a jail term of between four and 10 years or pay a fine of between GHS12,000 and GHS60,000 or both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is according to the new Executive Instrument, E.I. 164 which was signed by President Akufo-Addo on June 15, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mandatory wearing of face masks will be in force for a period of three months and is part of measures to stop the spread of COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on the subject, Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah urged local authorities to do their best to ensure compliance of the wearing of face masks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Executive Instrument that makes the wearing of face masks mandatory is out and while we salute the efforts of those who have already started higher levels of compliance, we want to encourage those who have not that the EI is out and they are expected as regional ministers, MMDCEs to step up enforcement within their own jurisdiction,\u201d he said at the Information Ministry\u2019s press briefing on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But reacting to this, A Plus said this jail sentence should be given to appointees who steal from the country\u2019s coffers to enrich themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
