{"id":18309,"date":"2021-03-04T08:15:27","date_gmt":"2021-03-04T08:15:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinegh.com\/?p=18309"},"modified":"2021-03-04T08:15:29","modified_gmt":"2021-03-04T08:15:29","slug":"road-safety-authority-issues-new-guidelines-for-drivers-of-inter-city-travels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/?p=18309","title":{"rendered":"Road Safety Authority issues new guidelines for drivers of inter-city travels"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has issued some regulatory directives to commercial passenger transport operators providing only inter-city services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is to improve the quality of service offered and mainly reduce crashes on Ghana\u2019s roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Commercial drivers who operate other forms of public transport popularly known as \u201ctrotro\u201d are however exempted from the guidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The directives which are five in all were announced on Wednesday, March 3, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. All target operators are required to assign two drivers to all trips that are in excess of 8hrs or 500km and to submit a journey plan for all such routes. This is enforceable from April 1st, 2021<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. All target operators are required to train their drivers in Defensive Driving in accordance with standards approved by the Authority &amp; DVLA. This is enforceable from July 1st, 2021<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. All target operators are required to introduce the use of vehicle log books to help enforce the protocols on maximum driving hours &amp; high speeds. This is enforceable from April 1st, 2021<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4. All target operators shall be required to appoint Road Safety Officers who shall be responsible for conducting pre-departure checks at all terminals. The Operators shall notify the Authority of the appointment on or before April 1st, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5. All operators providing inter-city services shall fit retro-reflective tapes approved by DVLA on their vehicles in accordance with Regulation 80 of L.I.2180. This shall be enforceable on April 1st, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sanctions<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>To ensure the safety and protect the lives of passengers, the Road Safety Authority has vowed to enforce these directives to the latter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has, to this end appointed Road Safety Inspectors who will be conducting random and periodic operational audit at target terminals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Transport operators who fail to comply with these directives issued pursuant to Act 993 shall be subject to the following consequences will be cautioned with a compliance notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The errant drivers also risk the suspension of operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other sanctions to be meted out to defaulters also include the imposition of an administrative penalty of between 5,000-20,000 penalty units depending on the nature of the breach and consequences for public safety.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has issued some regulatory directives to commercial passenger transport operators providing only inter-city services.
