The Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), has urged the government to implement the recommendations of the Emile Short Commission of Inquiry by dissolving the SWAT team of the National Security Council Secretariat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to CDD-Ghana, the actions of the team are not healthy for the security of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The group made the call in reaction to the assault of Citi News\u2019 Caleb Kudah and the Gestapo-style invasion of the premises of Citi FM\/Citi TV in a bid to arrest another journalist, Zoe Abu-Baidoo Addo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CDD-Ghana condemned the action and described it as ridiculous and unprofessional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a Citi News<\/strong> interview, the Director of Advocacy and Policy Engagement at the CDD-Ghana, Kojo Asante, said there is the need to completely review the country\u2019s National Security apparatus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to Mr. Asante, the actions of the security agency are not in tandem with the 1992 constitution of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cFor me, on the back of the Ayawaso report, I think we need to come back to the conversation around the reform of National Security. Moreover, we just passed a new National Security Act, and we need to look at the behaviour, the culture and the rest. This idea of the operatives of National Security going here and there doing police [work] and all that is something that the State needs to look at very carefully.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI don\u2019t think that is what the constitution prescribes, but this is what the practice has evolved to be, and it must be looked at carefully.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mr. Kudah was arrested at the National Security Ministry on Tuesday for filming abandoned MASLOC vehicles parked at the premises of the Ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A team of heavily-armed SWAT police officers subsequently were dispatched to arrest Citi News<\/strong>\u2018 Zoe Abu-Baidoo Addo at the premises of Citi FM\/Citi TV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is because Caleb had forwarded some of the footage he captured to Zoe via WhatsApp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Caleb Kudah in an interview with Bernard Avle on The Point Of View<\/strong> on Citi TV indicated that he was slapped several times by the security officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Ministry of National Security on Thursday said it has begun investigations into the issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\nAbout the raid and arrest<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n
