The Director of Elections<\/a> for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Evans Nimako, has said the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC)<\/a> has no reason to stay away from events organized by the Electoral Committee (EC) to assess last year\u2019s elections<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He told Dzifa Bampoh on the First Take on 3FM Thursday May 21 that the NDC\u2019s claim that the\u00a0elections<\/a>\u00a0were rigged is unfounded because they went to court on that assertion however failed to substantiate their allegation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NDC boycotted the two-day event held by the EC to examine the 2020\u00a0elections<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The party further dismissed claims by the chairperson of the EC Jean Mensa that the 2020 election<\/a> was the most successful in Ghana\u2019s history which demands celebration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the party, there are several examples to show the election<\/a> was flawed and poorly organized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At a press conference in Accra, Director of\u00a0Elections<\/a>\u00a0of the NDC, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah said the death of at least six persons, vote padding, widespread irregularities and the unprecedented number of rejected ballots, point to a process that was contrived and poorly organized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has been urging the public to treat the EC\u2019s comments with contempt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe NDC has taken note of several false claims by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission Mrs Jean Adukwei Mensa in a speech delivered at the just ended two day workshop between the EC and the Interparty Advisory Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe purpose of this press conference is to formally respond to and expose the many unfounded claims peddled by the EC chairperson in her speech and to explain to you the reasons for our boycott of these IPAC engagements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cContrary to the claims by the EC chairperson that the 2020 general elections<\/a> was the best ever in the history of this country and calls for the nation to celebrate some so-called unprecedented success chalked by the EC in the conduct of the elections<\/a>, the facts show that last year\u2019s elections<\/a> was one of the most poorly conducted flawed and manipulated elections<\/a> in the history of this country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Nimako who attended the event on behalf of the NPP, told Dzifa that \u201cWhen the CDD CODEO organized a similar review workshop to assess the conduct of the elections<\/a> in Ada, the NDC were there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCODEO is one of the local CSOs that monitors the elections<\/a> but it is not the constitutionally mandated body to conduct elections<\/a>. I am saying that to take an entrenched position that the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections<\/a> were rigged is not the best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe NDC went to court, proceedings in court were telecast for the whole world<\/a> to see. The star witness of the NDC was Mr Asiedu Nketia so where is this coming from?  If you have any strong evidence to prove that the elections<\/a> were rigged, you were before the judiciary to prove. What did we see?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey cannot just be issuing statements anyhow to let Ghanaians know that this is how we feel.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
