{"id":24347,"date":"2021-06-28T07:57:54","date_gmt":"2021-06-28T07:57:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinegh.com\/?p=24347"},"modified":"2021-06-28T07:58:26","modified_gmt":"2021-06-28T07:58:26","slug":"ghana-removed-from-eus-money-laundering-blacklist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/?p=24347","title":{"rendered":"Ghana removed from EU\u2019s money laundering blacklist"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Ghana is no longer on the European Union\u2019s list of blacklisted countries that have failed to put in measures to fight money laundering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was made known by global money laundering and terrorist financing watchdog, Financial Action Task Force (FATF) on Friday, June 25, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It will be recalled that, the European Union (EU),&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/citibusinessnews.com\/2021\/05\/ghana-to-be-removed-from-eus-money-laundering-list\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>announced plans to<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;take off Ghana from its list of countries noted for money laundering and terrorism financing after meetings were held between President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, as well as at the European Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A statement issued by the FATF said it welcomes the significant progress by the country in improving its AML\/CFT regime, explaining further that Ghana has strengthened the effectiveness of its AML\/CFT regime and addressed related technical deficiencies to meet the commitments in its action plan regarding the strategic deficiencies that the FATF identified in October 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGhana is therefore no longer subject to the FATF\u2019s increased monitoring process. Ghana will continue to work with GIABA to improve further its AML\/CFT regime,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Ghana among 22 countries blacklisted by EU over money laundering breaches<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The European Union in May 2020,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/citibusinessnews.com\/2020\/05\/ghana-among-22-countries-blacklisted-by-eu-over-money-laundering-breaches\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>cited Ghana as one of<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/a>four African countries listed by the Union for money laundering breaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the EU, the issue puts the financial transactions of the said countries under greater scrutiny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The other three African countries put on the list at the time were Botswana, Mauritius and Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The remaining eight are Bahamas, Barbados, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama, Cambodia, Mongolia and Myanmar.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ghana is no longer on the European Union\u2019s list of blacklisted countries that have failed to put in measures to fight money laundering.
