{"id":25098,"date":"2021-07-08T16:10:23","date_gmt":"2021-07-08T16:10:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinegh.com\/?p=25098"},"modified":"2021-07-08T16:10:24","modified_gmt":"2021-07-08T16:10:24","slug":"no-need-attacking-mps-over-car-loan-they-will-pay-back-kate-addo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/?p=25098","title":{"rendered":"No need attacking MPs over car loan; they will pay back \u2013 Kate Addo"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Director of Public Affairs of Parliament, Kate Addo says the backlash on Members of Parliament (MPs) over a car loan agreement proposed for the purchase of vehicles for them is unfounded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Minister for Finance, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta presented a&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/2021\/07\/ofori-atta-tables-28m-loan-agreement-for-mps-to-buy-cars\/\">loan agreement for $28 million<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;to Parliament for the purchase of vehicles for Ghana\u2019s legislators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on the amount and the number of individuals involved, each MP is expected to receive over $100,000 for the purchase of a vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Finance Committee of the House is expected to consider the loan agreement and report to the house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some Ghanaians are incensed over the loan agreement and have taken to social media to express their displeasure about the issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But Speaking to\u00a0Citi News, Madam Kate Addo argued that there is no need for all the backlash since the\u00a0 MPs will eventually refund the loan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSome of these MPs have their constituencies in remote areas. These people need to have access to their constituencies. Ideally, these MPs have to visit their constituencies at least once a week.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese loans are paid by MPs themselves, and they are deducted at source. So it is not as though they are going to get them for free.
