{"id":25372,"date":"2021-07-14T08:20:21","date_gmt":"2021-07-14T08:20:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinegh.com\/?p=25372"},"modified":"2021-07-14T08:20:22","modified_gmt":"2021-07-14T08:20:22","slug":"china-hotel-collapse-leaves-17-dead-injures-five","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/?p=25372","title":{"rendered":"China: Hotel collapse leaves 17 dead, injures five"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Some seventeen people have died after a hotel collapsed in the eastern Chinese city of Suzhou.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After 36 hours of search operations, rescue workers found 23 people buried in the rubble \u2013 six of whom were found alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A preliminary investigation found the collapse was caused by the owner altering the structure of the building, according to the Global Times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The building is said to have undergone frequent renovations in recent years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe building used to have only three floors, but over the years they have been adding extra floors,\u201d one resident told news outlet Red Star News.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Jiangsu Provincial Government said an investigations team was looking into the accident, adding that \u201crelevant individuals\u201d would face criminal charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The collapse of the Siji Kaiyuan Hotel in Suzhou happened on Monday afternoon at 15:33 local time (07:33 GMT). More than 600 rescue workers were deployed to the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There were initially believed to be 18 people in the 54-room hotel at the time of the collapse, but it was later revealed there were five unregistered guests inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Out of the six people found alive, five are said to be injured but in stable condition. One person suffered no injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Building collapses in China have in the past been linked to poor construction work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, 29 people died after a hotel collapse in Fujian province.
