The Inspector-General of Police Dr George Akuffo Dampare has assured members of the Economic Fighters League and FIXTHECOUNTRY protest group of police protection on their upcoming demonstration scheduled for Wednesday, August 4, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Akuffo Dampare who only assumed office on Sunday, August 1, invited the group to his office to personally assure them of maximum police protection \u201cfrom the start to the end\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The IGP and other Police Chiefs also went through the agreed routes with the group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The group, made up of mainly social media activists, confirmed the meeting with the IGP on their Facebook page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe meeting was held at the request of the newly appointed IGP. According to him, his reason for calling the meeting was to assure us of maximum protection from the start to the end of the August 4 #FixTheCountry protest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe went over the routes earmarked for the protest from Obra spot (Circle) \u2014 Farisco Left \u2014 TUC \u2014 Kinbu Senior High School \u2013 Centre for National Culture \u2013 to Independence Square. We also explained that we have recruited and trained marshals who will be assigned to liaise with police on anything and to guide the crowd.
\u201cOn COVID-19 protocols, the marshals will be in charge of making sure everybody wears their masks and maintaining distance\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Social media users in Ghana are adhering to the hashtag #FixTheCountry in droves to pressure the government to improve its citizens\u2019 lives. The protest is starting to leave cyberspace and taking first steps in the analog world. Among the new movement\u2019s demands are more jobs, no corruption, fewer taxes, and better education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
