{"id":27361,"date":"2021-08-13T07:54:01","date_gmt":"2021-08-13T07:54:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinegh.com\/?p=27361"},"modified":"2021-08-13T07:54:02","modified_gmt":"2021-08-13T07:54:02","slug":"former-ghana-standards-authority-boss-received-double-salary-for-6-yrs-audit-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/?p=27361","title":{"rendered":"Former Ghana Standards Authority boss received double salary for 6-yrs \u2013 Audit report"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A former Executive Director of the Ghana Standards Authority, Dr. George Ben Crentsil, has been cited for taking double salary for six years while in active service at the institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is according to a 2020 report of the Auditor-General\u2019s Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the report, Dr. Crentsil, between January 2011 and January 2017 received double salary-related allowances of GH\u00a2342,068.70.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report said management of the Authority is to retrieve the money from Dr. Crentsil and report back for verification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDr. George Ben Crentsil, the former Executive Director, was paid double salary-related allowances of GH\u00a2342,068.70 by the Authority from January 2011 to January 2017. We recommended to Management to take the necessary steps to recover GH\u00a2342,068.70 wrongly paid to Dr. George Ben Crentsil, the former Executive Director and our office informed for verification,\u201d the report stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is not the first time Dr. Crentsil\u2019s name is surfacing in an audit report for alleged wrongdoing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2018, Dr. George Ben-Crentsil was reported to have&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/2018\/09\/heads-of-6-state-agencies-under-mahama-misappropriated-over-ghc800m-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">misappropriated about&nbsp; GH\u00a21.6 million<\/a><\/strong>, and allegedly got kickback payments of over $1 million whilst at the Ghana Standards Authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was alleged to have collected $1.2 million from Lemet Construction Company; the firm that he awarded a contract to build a new training school and hostel facility for the GSA during the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Another challenge<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The latest Audit Service report further accused the Board of Directors of the Ghana Standards Authority of authorising the payment of GH\u00a2291,570.12 to the Director-General as salary and related allowances covering the period of June 2017 to December 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also found that the amount was charged on the company\u2019s Internally Generated Find (IGF) \u201cin contravention of the Retention of Fund Act, 2007 (Act 735).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report said it has already \u201crecommended the Board to seek retrospective approval from the Ministry of Finance to ratify the salary and the related allowances paid to the Director-General.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Source :citinewsroom.com<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Send your news stories to&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:dannyboy744@gmail.com\">dannyboy744@gmail.com<\/a>&nbsp;and via WhatsApp on +233 266777777<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A former Executive Director of the Ghana Standards Authority, Dr. George Ben Crentsil, has been cited for taking double salary for six years while in active service at the institution.
