{"id":27435,"date":"2021-08-16T18:33:42","date_gmt":"2021-08-16T18:33:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinegh.com\/?p=27435"},"modified":"2021-08-16T18:33:42","modified_gmt":"2021-08-16T18:33:42","slug":"nca-yet-to-retrieve-over-%c2%a225m-debt-from-glo-vodafone-audit-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/?p=27435","title":{"rendered":"NCA yet to retrieve over \u00a225M debt from Glo, Vodafone \u2013 Audit Report"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Audit Service has found that telecom companies, Vodafone and Glo are yet to pay debts of more than GH\u00a225 million they owe the National Communications Authority (NCA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Service in its audit report on public boards corporations and other statutory institutions ending December 2020, indicated that while Glo owed the government GH\u00a217 million for services it received from the NCA including its operating licence, Vodafone owed GH\u00a28.9 million which is a fine it was slapped with for non-compliance to quality-of-service requirements in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe noted that government revenue amounting to GH\u00a217,014,402.26 and US$736,330.76 had accrued as a result of various services provided by NCA including licences issued to Globacom Ghana to enable it to operate within Ghana\u2019s Telecommunications Space. We also noted that an amount of GH\u00a22,292,004.93 included in the revenue totalling GH\u00a217,014,402.26 due by May 2018 was outstanding as of July 2019,\u201d the report concerning Glo\u2019s indebtedness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Per the report, the management of the NCA indicated that it had been in constant touch with Glo to retrieve the debt and that the company had explained that they had \u201ccash flow challenges which they are working to improve upon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the NCA, a new payment plan was approved in July 2019 to enable Glo to settle the debt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Glo has since paid only US$386,355.99 out of the US$736,339.76 and an amount of GH\u00a21,160,840.74 out of the GH\u00a217,014,402.26 debt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The auditors said they advised the NCA following the discovery that they needed to tighten their revenue accounting systems to avert such a situation and ensure that it recovers in full the debt Glo owes, including \u201cinterest at the prevailing Bank of Ghana Treasury bill discount rate with evidence of recovery for audit certification.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Vodafone\u2019s case<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In November 2018, the NCA fined Mobile Network Operators (MNOs); AirtelTigo, Glo, MTN and Vodafone for their non-compliance with various Quality of Service (QoS) requirements.
