The leaders of Guinea\u2019s last Sunday\u2019s coup d\u2019etat have set free at least 80 prisoners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among those freed are opponents of deposed President Alpha Cond\u00e9, African Entertainment understands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The liberation of the prisoners comes ahead of ECOWAS virtual summit on the political situations in Guinea and Mali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Cond\u00e9 was ousted by special forces under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Mamady Doumbouya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr Cond\u00e9, aged 83, has been accused of corruption and mismanagement as well as human rights abuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the prisoners freed, according to local media reports monitored by African Entertainment, is Isma\u00ebl Cond\u00e9, a member of the opposition UFDG party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Isma\u00ebl Cond\u00e9 is quoted as saying \u201cIt\u2019s a feeling you can\u2019t explain, to be deprived of your freedom for 12 months for such trivial things and to be released under these conditions, you can\u2019t explain.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr Mamady Onivogui, a democracy and human rights activist, was also freed by the coup leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI hope that the junta will do something so that Guineans can get along, so that Guineans can move forward, because we are more than 60 years into our independence and it\u2019s dragging on,\u201d says Onivogui.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
