McMaster. They were appointed to the advisory boards of the Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, and West Point respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Wednesday afternoon confirmed the request had been made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe President\u2019s objective is what any president\u2019s objective is \u2014 to ensure you have nominees and people serving on these boards who are qualified to serve on them and who are aligned with your values. And so yes, that was an ask that was made,\u201d Psaki told reporters at a White House briefing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Psaki added: \u201cI will let others evaluate whether they think Kellyanne Conway and Sean Spicer and others were qualified, or not political, to serve on these boards, but the President\u2019s qualification requirements are not your party registration, they are whether you\u2019re qualified to serve and whether you\u2019re aligned with the values of this administration.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other more prominent names include \u200b\u200bHeidi Stirrup, the former White House liaison to the Justice Department who was banned from entering the building after she attempted to access sensitive information about possible election fraud in December 2020, and retired Col. Douglas Macgregor, a former ambassador pick and Pentagon official with a history of controversial comments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The duo were appointed to the boards of the Air Force Academy and West Point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other appointees who have been asked to resign are Michael Wynne, who was appointed to the board of the Air Force Academy; retired Gen. John Keane, Meaghan Mobbs, and David Urban appointed to the board of West Point; and John Coale and Russell Vought, Trump\u2019s former director of the Office of Management and Budget, appointed to the Naval Academy\u2019s board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The dismissal of Trump officials from the military advisory boards comes after the Pentagon has recently restarted its other advisory boards after removing hundreds of appointees from other boards in February. In November, just months ahead of when he was set to leave office, Trump dismissed several longstanding members of the Defense Policy Board ahead of their terms being up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The military academy advisory boards, according to the Air Force Academy website, were established to oversee the \u201cmorale, discipline, social climate, curriculum, instruction, physical equipment, fiscal affairs, academic methods, and other matters\u201d relating to the nation\u2019s military academies. The board for each academy meets several times a year and its members provide independent advice and recommendations to the President.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The members typically serve out three-year terms. At least one Trump appointee, Vought, has signaled he will not resign.<br>\u201cNo. It\u2019s a three year term,\u201d Vought tweeted, attaching an image of the letter requesting his resignation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When reached for comment by CNN, Spicer said he intends to respond to the resignation demand on his show. Wynne told CNN \u201cit was an honor to be on the board,\u201d and said he was disappointed he wasn\u2019t asked to remain on the board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cVery disappointed to see the Biden administration not honor a previous president\u2019s appointment to the board of visitors, which has been the tradition for years,\u201d Keane told CNN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement, Mobbs said she would not be resigning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFrankly, I find this whole act unconscionable and not all in the spirit by which this Administration promised to govern. President Biden ran on a supposed platform of unity but his actions speak directly to the contrary. Apparently, unity is only for those who conform,\u201d Mobbs said. \u201cWhen I joined the Board under the Trump Administration, there were holdovers from the Obama Administration. They were not terminated but instead served alongside Trump appointees.
