{"id":35203,"date":"2022-02-03T09:03:47","date_gmt":"2022-02-03T09:03:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinegh.com\/?p=35203"},"modified":"2022-02-03T09:03:57","modified_gmt":"2022-02-03T09:03:57","slug":"ghana-revenue-authority-prepares-to-collect-e-levy-for-govt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/?p=35203","title":{"rendered":"Ghana Revenue Authority prepares to collect E-levy for gov&#8217;t"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) is preparing to collect the proposed&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pulse.com.gh\/news\/local\/govt-will-pass-175-e-levy-despite-opposition-nana-addo\/j2d4rmg\">1.75% electronic levy<\/a>&nbsp;(E-levy) on mobile money transactions, bank transfers, and inward remittances when approved by Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/res.6chcdn.feednews.com\/assets\/v2\/8584f60866bf0810c67a902f494dc259?source=nlp&amp;quality=uhq&amp;format=jpeg&amp;resize=720\" alt=\"Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA)\" title=\"Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA)\"\/><figcaption>Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A letter from the GRA has directed partners such as the ARB Apex Bank to trigger processes awaiting the passage of the controversial bill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The letter signed by Commissioner-General Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, on January 31, 2022, explained that &#8220;While we await the passage of the bill, I wish to inform you to hold yourself in readiness for the implementation of the By in three (3) phases as soon as the Bill is passed into law&#8221; and the execution of the taxation will be undertaken in three phases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is to enable the GRA to adequately factor the new tax into its revenue collection regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It added that it [GRA] is &#8220;currently developing a monitoring platform for the full implementation of the e-levy and would be inviting you to collaborate with its Technical Team in this respect.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is optimistic that the government will pass the E-levy bill despite opposing views from Ghanaians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>E-Levy, he said is the only way for the government to pay for the free water and free electricity enjoyed during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Revenues during 2020\/2021 went down considerably because of the slowing down of the economic activities that came from the COVID-19. At the same time, government, in order to keep the country going, did incur some expenditures on the free water, the free electricity.
