{"id":35493,"date":"2022-02-10T18:58:09","date_gmt":"2022-02-10T18:58:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinegh.com\/?p=35493"},"modified":"2022-02-10T18:58:11","modified_gmt":"2022-02-10T18:58:11","slug":"court-directs-nlc-and-utag-to-return-to-negotiation-table","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/?p=35493","title":{"rendered":"Court directs NLC and UTAG to return to negotiation table"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Labour Division of the High Court has again directed the National Labour Commission (NLC) and the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), to return to the negotiation table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The parties are at a stalemate over UTAG\u2019s five-week-old strike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the NLC has ruled the strike as illegal and ordered the lecturers back to the lecture hall, UTAG defied the order while insisting on its due.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UTAG has subsequently engaged the government through the Ministry of Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Court on Thursday urged the parties to return to the engagements and, adjourned to Tuesday, February 15, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two parties were previously&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/2022\/02\/settle-your-dispute-out-of-court-high-court-tells-nlc-utag\/\">told by the court to settle the impasse out of court<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NLC sued, seeking the enforcement of its order which was defied by public university teachers in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NLC earlier directed UTAG to call off its strike, but this directive was not adhered to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The teachers had defied the NLC\u2019s order while insisting on a resolution of their demands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The strike has brought academic work to a halt on public tertiary university campuses and threatens to distort the academic calendar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"utag-s-demands\"><strong>UTAG\u2019s demands<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>UTAG has been on strike since January 10 to force the government&nbsp;to<a href=\"https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/2022\/01\/utag-directs-members-to-continue-with-strike-until-further-notice\/\"><strong>&nbsp;restore the conditions of service<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;agreed upon in 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2012 conditions of service pegged the Basic plus Market Premium of a lecturer at $2,084.42.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UTAG has complained that the current arrangement has reduced its members\u2019 basic premiums to $997.84.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Labour Division of the High Court has again directed the National Labour Commission (NLC) and the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), to return to the negotiation table.
