{"id":35741,"date":"2022-02-18T10:33:55","date_gmt":"2022-02-18T10:33:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinegh.com\/?p=35741"},"modified":"2022-02-18T10:33:58","modified_gmt":"2022-02-18T10:33:58","slug":"utag-strike-weve-not-agreed-to-return-to-class-we-await-nec-decision-upsa-lecturers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/?p=35741","title":{"rendered":"UTAG strike: We\u2019ve not agreed to return to class; we await NEC decision \u2013 UPSA lecturers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Lecturers at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) say their strike is still in force, despite a notice from the School\u2019s management announcing the commencement of classes on Monday, February 21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to UPSA-UTAG, they are members of the national body; hence, decisions taken by the National Executive Council (NEC) of UTAG binds on lecturers in UPSA as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This follows an earlier&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/upsa-lecturers-to-resume-academic-activities-on-feb-21\/\">letter from UPSA Management<\/a>&nbsp;that said its lecturers were to resume active teaching on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That directive came in the wake of an injunction placed on UTAG\u2019s strike by the Labor Division of the Accra High Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"956\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinegh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-02-17-at-9.49.12-PM.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-35743\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-02-17-at-9.49.12-PM.jpg 720w, https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-02-17-at-9.49.12-PM-226x300.jpg 226w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><figcaption>With the injunction, UTAG is required to suspend the strike action and return to the negotiation table.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The order from the Court follows an appeal by the National Labour Commission (NLC) for an interlocutory injunction to suspend the strike by UTAG while negotiations continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UTAG is, therefore, expected to halt the strike until the Court determines the substantive application by the NLC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Court presided over by Justice Frank Aboadwe Rockson noted that ongoing negotiations between the parties may not yield any result if the industrial action continues hence the injunction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the NEC of UTAG says until it has consulted its legal team on the way forward, the strike will continue unabated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consequently, UPSA-UTAG has indicated its resolve to wait for the decision of the NEC of UTAG on the interlocutory injunction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUTAG-UPSA, therefore, calls on members to exercise maximum restraints by remaining calm as we await the decision of the NEC of UTAG,\u201d it concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Send your news stories to\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:dannyboy744@gmail.com\">dannyboy744@gmail.com<\/a>\u00a0and via WhatsApp on +233 266777777<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lecturers at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) say their strike is still in force, despite a notice from the School\u2019s management announcing the commencement of classes on Monday, February 21.
