{"id":37010,"date":"2022-03-28T10:55:41","date_gmt":"2022-03-28T10:55:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinegh.com\/?p=37010"},"modified":"2022-03-28T10:55:43","modified_gmt":"2022-03-28T10:55:43","slug":"timing-of-e-levy-wrong-1-7-charge-too-much-franklin-cudjoe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/?p=37010","title":{"rendered":"Timing of E-Levy wrong; 1.7% charge too much \u2013 Franklin Cudjoe"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/api.whatsapp.com\/send?text=Check%20this%20out%20on%20modernghana.com%20https%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Emodernghana%2Ecom%2Fnews%2F1148025%2Ftiming%2Dof%2De%2Dlevy%2Dwrong%2D17%2Dcharge%2Dtoo%2Dmuch%2Ehtml\"><\/a><strong>The president of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe has proposed that government consider reducing the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy) to 0.5%.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to him while the timing of the controversial E-Levy is wrong, the charge fixed by the Ministry in charge of Finance is also too high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking to Asaase Radio last Saturday, Franklin Cudjoe stressed that Ghanaians may accept to pay E-Levy at a reduced fee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTo be frank, we have been paying a form of the E-Levy for a long while now and ordinarily people would not have had an issue with it, but the timing has been totally wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe most important reason why people are reluctant to pay the E-Levy which I agree with is that our financial issues are not caused by mobilisation; the use of the monies is what has been the issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe amount being billed for the E-Levy is far too much and I would have suggested a tax of about 0.5% to 0.7% as E-Levy, not 1.75%,\u201d Franklin Cudjoe shared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since its introduction in November by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, the levy has received opposition from Ghanaians with the Minority in Parliament insisting that it will not consent to its approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result, the Majority has struggled to pass the bill with the government continually sweating and pleading to Parliament to approve the bill for its implementation to help mobilise revenue for development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SEND A STORY:<\/strong>\u00a0Do you have a story for us or need a promotion\/advertisement?
