{"id":41598,"date":"2022-06-23T06:39:34","date_gmt":"2022-06-23T06:39:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinegh.com\/?p=41598"},"modified":"2022-06-23T06:39:39","modified_gmt":"2022-06-23T06:39:39","slug":"etoo-faces-prison-sentence-over-tax-evasion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/?p=41598","title":{"rendered":"Eto\u2019o Faces Prison Sentence \u2026 Over Tax Evasion"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Cameroon FA president Samuel Eto\u2019o has received a 22-month suspended prison sentence for tax evasion totalling \u00a33.32 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spanish newspaper&nbsp;<strong><em>Sport<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;reports that the former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker admitted the offence, but claims he was duped by his former agent Jose Maria Mesalles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fraud stems from Eto\u2019o\u2019s failure to declare income from the sale of image rights to Puma and Barcelona in his personal income tax returns between 2006 and 2009.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 41-year-old said he would repay the entire amount but blamed Mesalles, whom he saw as a father at the time of the offences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was my father who took care of the child I was then,\u201d Eto\u2019o said. \u201cI\u2019m going to pay but I\u2019ve always done what my father told me I had to do,\u201d Eto\u2019o was quoted via&nbsp;<em>daily mail.co.uk<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The prosecution initially requested a four-year and six-month sentence for Eto\u2019o and his former agent Mesalles, but ultimately settled on a 22-month sentence for Eto\u2019o and a one-year sentence for Mesalles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SEND A STORY:<\/strong>\u00a0Do you have a story for us or need a promotion\/advertisement?
