Former United States goalkeeper Hope Solo has pleaded guilty to driving while impaired and says she is \u201cslowly coming back\u201d after undergoing an in-patient alcohol treatment programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Solo, 40, was arrested in March after she was found passed out in her car with her twin sons inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The World Cup winner and two-time Olympic champion won 202 caps for the US.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been a long road but I\u2019m slowly coming back,\u201d Solo said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI pride myself in motherhood and what my husband and I have done day in and day out for over two years throughout the pandemic with two-year old twins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhile I\u2019m proud of us, it was incredibly hard and I made a huge mistake \u2013 easily the worst mistake of my life,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI underestimated what a destructive part of my life alcohol had become.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe upside of making a mistake this big is that the hard lessons are learned quickly. Learning these lessons has been difficult and, and at times, very painful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Solo, arrested in North Carolina on 31 March, was charged with impaired driving, resisting arrest and misdemeanour child abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However the charges of resisting arrest and misdemeanour child abuse were voluntarily dismissed, her attorney told the Winston-Salem Journal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Solo requested that her induction into the National Soccer Hall of Fame was postponed in late April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
