A trending video on the internet has showcased how we got the Akan word KONTOMIRE which is called cocoyam leaves in English. According to an oral narration which has been attached to this article, there lived a beautiful woman called Akosua Asante. One day, she was supposed to cook food for her beloved husband and some guests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mistakenly she grinded some quantities of cocoyam leaves into her soup. So alarmed, she feared that the cocoyam leaves could give her husband and guests a running stomach. Fortunately, they ate and appreciated the soup as one of the best. That gave Akosua Asante the courage to add more cocoyam leaves in her soup on daily basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
News started circulating that she has acquired some spiritual mushrooms which she has been using to cook for her husband in order to charm his heart for love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Akosua Asante was summoned at the Palace to come and prove her innocence. She used raw cocoyam leaves to cook infront of the whole villagers. The elders tasted and saw how sweet it was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From that day, all the men encouraged their wives not to go and buy mushrooms anymore. ( Nkoto mmire) which means DON\u2019T GO AND BUY MUSHROOM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All of them started using cocoyam leaves and called it KONTOMIRE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
