According to John Dramani Mahama, the image of Ghana\u2019s judiciary is \u201cbroken\u201d under the leadership of Justice Anin-Yeboah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a result, he hopes that a new Chief Justice will lead an image-cleansing crusade shortly, as the current Chief Justice is incapable of doing so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Sunday, August 28, 2022, he told a conference of lawyers from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the judiciary has become the butt of jokes due to its biased rulings and decisions on cases with a political tinge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since then, there have been two schools of thought: those who believe the former president\u2019s comment should be taken as advice and those who believe it is an indictment of the Service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, on Angel FM\u2019s Anopa Bofo morning show on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, the NPP communicator called Mr. Mahama\u2019s remark \u201cinappropriate\u201d due to the latter\u2019s political status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFirst and foremost, it is unfortunate for a former Ghanaian president to claim that the Apex Court is politically biased. Such words should not have come from the mouth of a former president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLet me tell you something, my brother, because if you carefully analyze the statement, it is an indirect threat to the Chief Justice. \u201cEven this is a threat to the judiciary because NDC lawyers will not be pleased to hear such remarks,\u201d he told host Kwamina Sam Biney in Twi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Edmund Kyei, the former President\u2019s statement is \u201cunjustifiable and distasteful,\u201d and it should not be considered because the basis for his assertion is questionable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr. Kyei, who also serves as the first Vice Chairman of the Asokwa Constituency in the Ashanti Region, called the NDC\u2019s Supreme Court challenge of the Electoral Commission following the 2020 elections a \u201cwaste of time\u201d because their exhibits were \u201cuntallied,\u201d indicating that they were unprepared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He urged Mr. Mahama to exercise caution in making such remarks, given that he is a former head of state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also requested that he apologize to the Judicial Service for dragging their reputation into the \u201cgutters.\u201d He claims that the comments not only bring the judicial system\u2019s image into disrepute but also cause the general public to \u201close faith\u201d in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
