{"id":47974,"date":"2022-09-08T15:21:39","date_gmt":"2022-09-08T15:21:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinegh.com\/?p=47974"},"modified":"2022-09-08T15:21:44","modified_gmt":"2022-09-08T15:21:44","slug":"swedish-teen-gets-life-sentence-for-killing-two-teachers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/?p=47974","title":{"rendered":"Swedish teen gets life sentence for killing two teachers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A Swedish court on Thursday sentenced an 18-year-old student to life in jail for killing two teachers with an axe in March, believed to be the youngest person to receive the sentence in Sweden\u2019s modern history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The young man was arrested shortly after the attack at Malmo Latin School, a creative arts high school, which has more than 1,000 students in Sweden\u2019s third-biggest city Malmo in southern Sweden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese are two very brutal murders where the victims greatly suffered and experienced severe fear of death,\u201d judge Johan Kvart said in a statement, adding that the teen\u2019s actions could not be seen as anything other than \u201cparticularly ruthless.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sentencing comes after the country amended a law under which young offenders used to receive more lenient sentences for grave crimes, and legal sources said the student is believed to be the youngest person to be given a life sentence in Sweden\u2019s modern history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The court said it had not been able to establish a clear motive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The young man admitted to the actions and told the court he felt there was no place in society for him, but said he expected to die in the attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A psychiatric evaluation showed the man was on the autism spectrum, but according to the court there was nothing to indicate that he was suffering from a \u201csevere psychiatric disorder.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The accused\u2019s lawyer, Anders Elison, had however argued for a more lenient sentence due to his client\u2019s psychiatric issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He told local media he would appeal the ruling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A life sentence in Sweden technically has no end date, but after 10 years the prisoner can apply to have their sentence commuted to a specific prison term, which is often granted \u2014 meaning in practice a life sentence is on average 16 years, according to Sweden\u2019s prison service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/guardian.ng\/news\/swedish-teen-gets-life-sentence-for-killing-two-teachers\/\">Source<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SEND A STORY:<\/strong>\u00a0Do you have a story for us or need a promotion \/ advertisement?
