{"id":48912,"date":"2022-09-20T07:13:33","date_gmt":"2022-09-20T07:13:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinegh.com\/?p=48912"},"modified":"2022-09-20T07:13:38","modified_gmt":"2022-09-20T07:13:38","slug":"covid-19-pandemic-is-over-in-the-us-joe-biden","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/?p=48912","title":{"rendered":"Covid-19 Pandemic \u2018Is Over\u2019 In The US \u2013 Joe Biden"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>President Joe Biden has declared the pandemic \u201cover\u201d in the US, even as the number of Americans who have died from Covid continues to rise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Biden said that while \u201cwe still have a problem\u201d, the situation is rapidly improving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Statistics show that over 400 Americans on average are dying from the virus each day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) said last week that the end of the pandemic is \u201cin sight\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an interview with 60 Minutes on CBS, Mr Biden said that the US is still doing \u201ca lot of work\u201d to control the virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The interview \u2013 aired over the weekend \u2013 was partly filmed on the floor of the Detroit Auto Show, where the president gestured towards the crowds.<br>&nbsp;<br>\u201cIf you notice, no one\u2019s wearing masks,\u201d he said. \u201cEverybody seems to be in pretty good shape\u2026I think it\u2019s changing.\u201d<br>In August, US officials extended the ongoing Covid-19 public health emergency, which has been in place since January 2020, through 13 October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To date, more than one million Americans have died from the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Data from Johns Hopkins University shows that the seven-day average of deaths currently stands at over 400, with more than 3,000 dead in the last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In January 2021, by comparison, more than 23,000 people were reported dead from the virus over a single week-long span. About 65% of the total US population is considered fully vaccinated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some federal vaccine mandates remain in place in the US \u2013 including on healthcare workers, military personnel and any non-US citizen entering the country by airplane.<br>&nbsp;<br>Public health officials have expressed cautious optimism in recent weeks that the world is edging towards a pandemic recovery but continue to urge people to remain careful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Monday, Dr Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, acknowledged the situation has improved.<br>But in comments made at Washington DC think-tank, he added that the current daily death rate is still \u201cunacceptably high\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are not where we need to be if we\u2019re going to be able to \u2018live with the virus,&#8217;\u201d he said.<br>He also cautioned that new Covid-19 variants could still emerge, especially in the coming winter months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The US recently authorised new vaccines that match the version of the Omicron variant currently dominant in the country, with federal health officials asking Americans to keep their jabs up-to-date.<br>&nbsp;<br>Last week, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that the world has \u201cnever been in a better position to end the pandemic\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are not there yet,\u201d he said. \u201cBut the end is in sight.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Covid-19 also continues to have a significant impact on the US economy, with the National Bureau of Economic Research reporting last week that Covid-related disease has slashed the US workforce by approximately 500,000 people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Biden said he believes that the pandemic has had a \u201cprofound\u201d impact on the psyche of Americans.<br>\u201cThat has changed everything\u2026people\u2019s attitudes about themselves, their families, about the state of the nation, about the state of their communities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a very difficult time. Very difficult.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 6.5 million people have died since the beginning of the pandemic around the world.
