Former President John Mahama says he hopes President Akufo-Addo\u2019s words in his upcoming address to the nation, would bring some sort of relief to Ghanaians amidst the current economic hardship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Transportation fares have increased by 19%, the country\u2019s currency has rapidly depreciated against the major trading currencies in the past few weeks and fuel prices have equally increased in the latest pricing window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The economic woes have been felt in the pockets of Ghanaians, compelling people to urge the President to fix the economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After several lamentations and agitations about the ailing state of the economy, President Akufo-Addo on Thursday announced that he will address the nation on the economic challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing the nation on the economy at the UPSA Auditorium on Thursday night on the theme: \u201cBuilding the Ghana we want\u201d, the 2020 NDC\u2019s Flagbearer said President Akufo-Addo\u2019s failure to reshuffle his Ministers and marshal his arsenals to fix the economy has compounded the current economic woes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSince this event was advertised, I have been made aware that the President intends to address the nation sometime over this weekend. It is my prayer that his words will strike the right cords in the hearts of Ghanaians. Since my speech in May, the situation has spiraled out of control and the effects have been calamitous for all of us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr. John Mahama noted that the current economic situation does not warrant the President to be engaging in the \u201cvein glorious pursuit of vindication\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He reiterated that the country\u2019s challenges are domestic driven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere is a desperate attempt to shift blame in an almost robotic fashion. This government recites the same verse in unison, that we are in this perilous situation only because of Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
