{"id":54140,"date":"2022-11-08T07:48:14","date_gmt":"2022-11-08T07:48:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinegh.com\/?p=54140"},"modified":"2022-11-08T07:48:17","modified_gmt":"2022-11-08T07:48:17","slug":"teachers-ambushing-school-kids-with-unfair-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/?p=54140","title":{"rendered":"<strong>Teachers ambushing school kids with unfair strike<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has implored the striking teachers to return to work after a strike to demand the removal of the new Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Dr. Eric Nkansah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking on\u00a0Eyewitness News, Mr. Afenyo-Markin said the teachers were \u201cambushing the future of young Ghanaians who are supposed to be in school,\u201d with an unjustified strike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think it is most unfair to Dr. Nkansah to be receiving such attacks\u2026 I would want to appeal to the union leadership, especially because of the kids, to look again within.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The three unions, the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and Coalition of Concerned Teachers, Ghana (CCT) have been on strike since November 4, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They are upset with the appointment as they believe Dr. Nkansah does not have a teaching background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Deputy Majority Leader said their grievances were not serious enough to warrant the strike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSo far nothing has been raised against him [Dr. Nkansah],\u201d Mr. Afenyo-Markin said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey may be stretching their luck rather too far. We don\u2019t need to break our shoulders over this matter.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey will have to, in all humility, accept the man, give him the chance and assess his competence from there,\u201d Mr. Afenyo-Markin added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also felt the teachers should be happy with Dr. Nkansah\u2019s diverse background, which comprises academia and banking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations has started engagements with the teachers to end the strike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their meetings have so far been unable to resolve the teachers\u2019 concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=\/AT6G2VC5PRM\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=\/AT6G2VC5PRM<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SEND A STORY:<\/strong>\u00a0Do you have a story for us or need a promotion \/ advertisement?
