{"id":56194,"date":"2022-11-24T19:14:08","date_gmt":"2022-11-24T19:14:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinegh.com\/?p=56194"},"modified":"2022-11-24T19:14:10","modified_gmt":"2022-11-24T19:14:10","slug":"court-orders-wanlov-to-pay-%c2%a255k-to-chalewotes-mantse-in-defamation-suit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/?p=56194","title":{"rendered":"<strong>Court orders Wanlov to pay \u00a255k to Chalewote\u2019s Mantse in defamation suit<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Emmanuel Owusu-Bonsu, popularly known as Wanlov has been ordered by a court to pay \u00a255,000 to the co-founder of Chalewote Street Art Festival, Mantse Aryeequaye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was after Mr. Aryeequaye won a defamation case against Wanlov.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2019, Wanlov had made an allegation that the plaintiff is a \u2018sex predator\u2019 and an abuser of women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMantse Melvin Nii Aryeequaye of AccraDotAlt, Sabolai Radio Festival, Chalewote Street Art Festival &amp; Redd Kat Pictures is a woman beater, woman abuser &amp; a sexual predator. He picked the wrong person to intimidate,\u201d he said in a tweet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following this allegation, Mantse filed a defamation lawsuit against Wanlov.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The case commenced in 2019 and took months to reach a verdict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the verdict issued by the court, Wa has been unable to provide compelling evidence to support his allegations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The court stated that Wanlov had not exercised \u201cthe best of judgments\u201d in making such allegations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It said Wanlov \u201cappeared to be naive and did not exercise the best of judgement\u2019 whilst making those allegations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe appeared to have allowed his popularity in the arts industry to have clouded his judgement on the occasion,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lawyers representing Mr. Ayeequaye wanted about \u00a21,000,000 in damages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the court said the amount was excessive and that even though the defendant deserved to pay for damages, he should not be destroyed with punitive measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think the defendant even though liable to pay damages must not be destroyed with punitive damages of that colossal amount that can destroy his talent in the arts community. As result, and way of \u2018go and sin\u2019 no more, I shall award by way of general damages a compensatory sum of GH\u00a250,000.00 against the defendant in favour of the plaintiff,\u201d the court said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The court also issued a restraining order for the defendant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the court, it is restraining the defendant, \u201chis assigns, agents, privies whatsoever and howsoever described from any further publication of the said libelous and defamatory statement or any similar words or statements of the defamatory of the plaintiff.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/court-orders-wanlov-to-pay-%C2%A255k-to-chalewotes-mantse-in-defamation-suit\/\">Source<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SEND A STORY:<\/strong>\u00a0Do you have a story for us or need a promotion \/ advertisement?
