{"id":56886,"date":"2022-12-02T21:22:16","date_gmt":"2022-12-02T21:22:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinegh.com\/?p=56886"},"modified":"2022-12-02T21:22:19","modified_gmt":"2022-12-02T21:22:19","slug":"well-oppose-removal-of-e-levy-threshold-minority","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/?p=56886","title":{"rendered":"<strong>We\u2019ll oppose\u00a0removal of e-Levy threshold \u2013 Minority<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Minority in Parliament says it will not support the government\u2019s proposed removal of the e-levy GH\u023c100 tax-free daily threshold.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the group, they will reject the policy with all the tools available to them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ranking Member on the Finance Committee of Parliament, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson revealed this during the debate on the 2023 budget on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his view, such a move would overburden the ordinary Ghanaian.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhy should we in these difficult economic conditions still task the person who your policies have made poorer?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMr Speaker, I can confirm to you that we, in the Minority on this matter, will reject it with all our might and strength. We believe that we should not accept this policy,\u201d he said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) has also kicked against the decision, saying the removal the daily GH\u20b5100 threshold is inappropriate.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This, according to the IEA, is because it \u2018fails\u2019 to protect the poor in the current economic crisis.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The IEA said government could attain the revenue target and boost usage of electronic transactions if it reviewed the rate further downward to 0.5 per cent&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are not only disappointed that the new rate is higher than the 0.5 per cent we proposed, but also the removal of the GH\u20b5100 daily exemption threshold, which is inappropriate,\u201d said Mr John Kwakye, Director of Research, IEA Ghana, at a press briefing in Accra.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SEND A STORY:<\/strong>\u00a0Do you have a story for us or need a promotion \/ advertisement?
