{"id":58718,"date":"2022-12-20T11:25:24","date_gmt":"2022-12-20T11:25:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinegh.com\/?p=58718"},"modified":"2022-12-20T11:25:27","modified_gmt":"2022-12-20T11:25:27","slug":"govt-suspends-external-debt-payments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kumasionlinetv.com\/?p=58718","title":{"rendered":"<strong>Govt suspends external debt payments<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Government through the Finance Ministery has announced the suspension of the debt service payments on certain categories of external debts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The suspension, according to the Ministry, includes Eurobonds, commercial loans and most bilateral debts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement, the Ministry explained the move is an interim emergency measure pending future agreements with all relevant creditors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The suspension, however, will not affect the payments of Ghana\u2019s multilateral debts, new debts (whether multilateral or otherwise) contracted after 19th December 2022 or debts related to certain short-term trade facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are also evaluating certain specific debts related to projects with the highest socio-economic impact for Ghana which may have to be excluded. This suspension is an interim emergency measure pending future agreements with all relevant creditors,\u201d the statement read in part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, on December 5, 2022, launched the Debt Exchange Programme to deal with current economic hardships which affected bonds listed on the Ghana Fixed Income Market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But on Saturday, the Ministry announced the extension of the Debt Exchange Programme to December 30, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SEND A STORY:<\/strong>&nbsp;Do you have a story for us or need a promotion \/ advertisement?
