Prof. Richard Asiedu, the Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has disclosed the reasons behind his decision to enter mainstream politics, citing the failure of his businesses during President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prof. Asiedu revealed that prior to entering politics, he had been involved in both local politics and business endeavours during an interview on Thursday, April 25, 2024, on the Ghana Yensom morning show, which is hosted by Kaayire Kwesi Apeau-Apreku.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, since the ascent of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by President Akufo-Addo, he lamented the collapse of his businesses due to what he described as the detrimental politics of the administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Attributing the downfall of his businesses to what he termed as vindictive actions by the NPP, Prof Asiedu emphasised the adverse impact on the employees, who are fellow Ghanaians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He contrasted the inclusiveness of the NDC with what he saw as the NPP’s favouritism towards specific party members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In response to the announcement that Prof. Jane Opoku-Agyemang would be running mate for former President John Dramani Mahama, Prof. Asiedu praised her as a ray of hope for the people of the Central Region and urged greater voter turnout to back her candidature and strengthen the status of women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Expressing the NDC’s determination to ensure a fair electoral process, Prof Asiedu warned against any attempts by the NPP to engage in vote padding under his leadership as the regional chairman, affirming his commitment to upholding transparency and integrity in the electoral process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
