There was drama in an Accra Circuit Court when a woman whose boyfriend has appeared before the court for beating her up, asked for an out-of-court settlement.<\/p>\n
According\u00a0to Viraka Mcwoks, a Liberian, her appeals for her boyfriend, Gnatoa Seri Julien, an Ivorian to be released from police custody was to stop his friends, who were blaming her for his\u00a0incarceration, would stop harassing her.<\/p>\n
However, Viraka wanted the court to direct her boyfriend to pay her medical bills as a condition for his release.<\/p>\n
The Court granted him a GH\u00a2 5,000.00 bail with one surety who should be a Ghanaian.<\/p>\n
He will re-appear on June 19.<\/p>\n
Viraka who covered her injured lips with a piece of cloth to prevent the veil from falling off gave her account, but neither the judge nor the interpreter could determine what she was saying.<\/p>\n
Police Chief Inspector Francis Tassan, briefing the Court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Essandoh said, Viraka is a publisher and the accused, a labourer at the Mama Africa Restaurant, Osu in Accra.<\/p>\n
He said the two had been friends for the past six months and Viraka had refused a marriage proposal from the accused.<\/p>\n
On May 26, this year, at about 12:10 at the Nationalism Park, Accra, Viraka met Gnatoa in possession of her missing bag.<\/p>\n
She asked him to hand over the bag, and he refused. A struggle ensued between the two, and this infuriated Gnatoa, who punched her in the face several times.<\/p>\n
This resulted in a deep cut on her upper lip. She called for help, and someone came to her rescue, but Gnatoa bolted.<\/p>\n
A report was made to the police, and he was arrested later.<\/p>\n
In his caution statement, Gnatoa denied the offence but was arraigned.<\/p>\n
