The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), will be registering private tricycle waste collectors, also known as, \u201cBorla Taxis\u201d, as part of efforts to coordinate waste management.<\/p>\n

The registration,\u00a0set to start in July, is mandatory\u00a0and also supposed to be free, the AMA said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs part of efforts to bring sanity into the operations of the Private Tricycle Waste Collectors popularly called \u2018Borla Taxis\u2019 or \u2018Aboboyaa\u2019, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) will begin registration of all operators from Wednesday 4th July to Tuesday 31st July 2018 excluding Sundays.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe registration will be done at various dump sites, waste transfer stations, AMA Waste Management Department at Kaneshie and other designated locations in the city,\u201d the AMA said.<\/p>\n

After the registration, \u201cany tricycle operating within the AMA\u2019s jurisdiction from August 2018 without the AMA embossment will be arrested and prosecuted,\u201d the AMA warned.<\/p>\n

This forms the latest move by the AMA to \u201cachieve the clean Accra goal.\u201d<\/p>\n

There had been reports that some of the tricycles were dumping waste indiscriminately in some parts of Accra, especially along the Tema Motorway.<\/p>\n
