Anglogold Ashanti is cautioning the public to be wary of a fake recruitment process for its Obuasi and Iduapriem mines.

The company tells Business News some unknown persons have succeeded in luring unsuspected persons into paying monies to secure employment in the mining company’s two mine sites.

“These individuals and/or companies write to unsuspecting job seekers either on a fraudulently designed AngloGold Ashanti letterhead or the letterhead of an alleged South African mining and Construction company known as Belko-SA Mining & Construction Company, which claims to have branches in Tarkwa, Obuasi and South Africa” a statement from AngloGold said.

It added, “These job vacancies are false and those involved have not been contracted to recruit on behalf of the Company. All job opportunities in the Company and its subsidiaries are duly published in selected newspapers and on the Careers Page of the Company’s official website”.

The Obuasi mine is yet to resume operations after years of inactivity.

Anglogold also maintains that it has not commenced recruitment for both operation sites.

Meanwhile, the Senior Manager in charge of Sustainability at Anglogold, Nana Ampofo-Bekoe tells Citi Business News his outfit is collaborating with the security agencies to bring the perpetrators to book.

“We have told the security agencies; we have given them the numbers of people that we know have fallen victims to this issue but no arrests have been made yet. Week in, week out, we receive calls from people but others are able to seek conformation from AngloGold where we deny any such claim,”

“But there are a couple of people who have fallen prey and they have lost money as a result,” he concluded.
