The Electoral Commission has explained that its original logo is much more in line with its mandate.

The EC’s Head of Communications, Eric Dzakpasu said on Eyewitness News the original logo “actually reflects and communicates well the public mandate of the Commission and also reflects the Ghanian context in which the Commission operates.”

The values underpinning this mandate are transparency, fairness and accountability, he noted.

“Just at a glance, you will be able to relate to this logo and understand what the Electoral Commission of Ghana stands for. That is all that there is.”

The logo the EC used before 2016 has officially been restored after the leadership of the EC agreed to do away with the new one.

The EC has reverted back to its old logo (L) from the one Charlotte Osei introduced (R)

A memo sighted by citinewsroom.com said “effect from today, the 4th of December, 2018, the original logo of the Electoral Commission which nears the Coats of Arms and has a ballot box showing the hand casting its vote has been restored.”

“All communications from the Electoral Commission must from today, be made on the letterhead bearing the original logo of the Commission as appears on the face of this letterheads, are to be picked up from the stores of the Commission,” the memo added.

Prior to the 2016 general elections, the Electoral Commission under the leadership of  Charlotte Osei, changed the logo as part of what was described as a five-year strategic plan to re-brand the Commission.

She said the new logo embodied the vision of the EC amid the controversy that greeted the change in logo.

Question of cost

As far as cost is concerned, Mr. Dzakpasu said “nothing much” would be spent.

He said all the Commission had done was to print new letterheads.

“We haven’t engaged any designer to redesign the logo and when you look at it, we’ve not actually rebranded the Commission and its assets.”

He said whatever will be spent will be made known to Ghanaians.
