MyNewsGh has confirmed that over 20 police officers with the Ghana Police Service who tested positive for the novel coronavirus have fully recovered.

The number includes seven (7)  in the Upper East Region who were said to have contracted the virus after being exposed to infected persons in line of duty.

Others it is gathered are officers stationed at Adenta and other parts of the country who were confirmed to have been infected with the virus in view of the fact that some suspects they handled earlier tested positive.

According to verified police sources, the first batch of infections involved a policeman who was on escort duties to the Upper East Region while the other was also returning to his duty post in the same region after holidays faced the same fate.

It has also been confirmed that about 137 personnel from the Upper East Regional Police Command were asked to self-isolate and their samples were taken for testing at Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine (KCCR) turned out to be free from the virus.

The move according to the police administration is to protect families and officers at the various barracks nationwide as the case count in the country continues to rise.

Ghana’s case count has increased to 7,881 with 2,841 recovered patients and 36 deaths.
