The Management of Kwame Nkrumah University and Science and Technology (KNUST), has urged the media to crosscheck their facts properly with the University’s relations office before ‘tarnishing the hard-won reputation of the University or risk legal actions’.

This admonishing comes at the backdrop of media reports which suggested that that a final year student of the KNUST has murdered a taxi driver, Thomas Kwame Danso, his friend for owing him GHS 1,200 in Kumasi.

In a statement from the Varsity copied to MyNewsGh, signed by the University’s Relations Officer, Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe on Thursday, July 16, the school explained that the media cannot qualify the alleged ‘murderer’ as a student of KNUST since he has on two occasions failed to register for University’s academic year and hence, ceases to be a student of the school.

“Our records indicate that Master Emmanuel Awuah did not register for the 1st and 2nd semesters of the 2018/2019 Academic Year. He again did not register for the 1st and 2nd semester of the 2019/2020 Academic Year. He did not defer his programme neither did he indicate any reason(s) for abandoning his programme of study in the University. Per the University’s regulations, a student who abandons his course for one full academic year without any cause, ceases to be a student of the University. In this case, the said student abandoned his course for two academic years and can therefore, NOT be referred to as a KNUST final year student.” Part of the statement reads.

The Management of the University however condemned the action of Emmanuel Awuah whom they have denounced and urged the Ghana Police Service to apprehend his accomplice and bring them to justice to serve as deterrence to other young men and women in the Country who may ‘conceive such cruel acts in the future.’
