“We will like the elections to be free, fair and inclusive and to build on the proud tradition that Ghana has on elections”, this is the exact quote of the British High Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency Iain Walker to the various stakeholders in the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.

Ghana goes to the polls on December 7, 2020 to elect both a new president and another set of legislators to superintend over the affairs of the country for another four years as enshrined by the 1992 constitution.

Speaking in a yet to be aired interview on 21 minutes with KKB monitored by MyNews, he touted the democratic credentials of the country, expressing hope that the 2020 polls for the country to consolidate these gains.

“Since 1992, the first transition of power in 2001, I think Ghana has really built a story and you can see the progress of the country through that time. And I know that the people who want to see that more than me, are Ghanaians.” He revealed.

On the relationship between the two countries, he said “Ghana is a friend and partner of UK in many ways and I think that we look at the progress that Ghana has made under both Political leaderships and it’s growing in prosperity, it’s growing in inclusion and I think all of that is built on democracy. What we are doing is promoting those advocating free and fair elections,” Mr. Walker said.

He explained that an “Inclusive election means anyone who is eligible to vote should be allowed to vote without fear, without concern and without undue influence.”
