Police have begun investigating circumstances that led to the death of the headmaster of the Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Junior High School (JHS) at Techiman, in the Bono East Region.

According to the police, 45-year-old Paul Dwamena’s lifeless body was found hanging from a mango tree behind his fence wall at his residence in Techiman Wiawso, around 5:00 pm on Monday, April 19, 2021.

The Techiman District Police Crime Officer, ASP William Abayateye, told Citi News that “preliminary investigations conducted indicate that the deceased closed from work at 3:00 pm. We found out that his wife, who is also a teacher was waiting for him to come around so they leave together. Upon waiting for some time, the wife decided to go home and prepare dinner.”

“While preparing dinner, the wife asked their 11-year-old son to dump some refuse outside. The boy got to the refuse dump, only to find his father hanging from a mango tree. He raised an alarm which drew people to the scene.”

He added that they cannot readily ascertain what prompted the action, adding that investigations are ongoing.

“Police detected that the deceased was hanging from the tree with his tongue sticking out. He did not leave behind a note, so we cannot tell what actually engendered his actions. We are not suspecting anyone for now, but investigations are still ongoing.”

Meanwhile, some teachers at the school have expressed shock at the news.

“We were here around 10:45 am when he came telling me that he wanted to go and see our Bishop. I bid him well and he went away. I learned he informed other teachers too and asked them to take good care of the children,” a teacher recounted.

“We are really shocked. He was in school on the day of the incident. He mentioned he had gone to see the Bishop. But we did not see any sign of such a thing happening. The headmaster was a man of few words. We are really saddened,” another teacher added.
