There is a striking resemblance in the choice of words in the goodwill message conveyed by both former President Mahama and Vice President Bawumia to Muslims celebrating Eid ul Adha toda

This has raised some level of eyebrows especially when both used almost the same words in a sentence that speaks about Muslims being selfless and giving back to humanity.

Why did the sentences sound similar? Why did they choose almost the same words and diction?

Is it a case of plagiarism or mere coincidence?

At exactly, 07:03 am on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, former President Mahama shared a post on his Facebook page where he sent an Eid message to Muslims. Part of his message read:

As we safely celebrate with family and loved ones, may our prayers be answered and our sacrifices be acceptable to Allah. May we be inspired by the sacrifice to give back to humanity, something that is bigger than ourselves.Related Articles

At exactly, 07:15 am on Tuesday, Jul;y 20, 2021, Vice President Bawumia also shared his Eid message to all Muslims. Part of his message read:

As we observe the great festival of sacrifice, Eid ul Adha, let us all be inspired by its significance and be selfless to humanity and our nation, as well as obedient to the Almighty Allah as demonstrated by Prophet Mohammed, alaihi salam

When you take a critical look at these two messages, you will realize that the highlighted parts contained the same message and almost the same choice of words?

Did Bawumia pick inspiration from Mahama in composing his Eid message or it is a clear case of coincidence?

How come words like “sacrifice”, “significance” and “humanity” are found in both sentences?

It could only be a clear case of plagiarism or mere coincidence. Wow!

What To Know

In identifying Plagiarism, there are several basic factors to consider:  Amount or quantity (full paper, a section of a paper, a page, a paragraph, a sentence, phrases) Use of quotation marks for all copied text. Appropriate placement of credit notices.

There are four different kinds of Plagiarism

  • Direct Plagiarism:
  • Mosaic Plagiarism:
  • Self-Plagiarism:
  • Accidental Plagiarism

Therefore, it can be deduced without emphatically stating that Bawumia’s Eid message falls under Accidental Plagiarism considering that Mahama’s Eid message was published minutes before his.

Purely accidental!
