Cape Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) nominee, Ernest Arthur, has been finally confirmed as Mayor after previously failing to get the nod of assembly members of the Cape Coast Metropolis two consecutive times.

He secured 45 votes out of a total of 63 votes, enabling him to meet the two-thirds of assembly members present and voting criterion required by law.

His confirmation however came with a lot of drama as disagreements on the counting process led to the snatching of ballot papers, exchange of blows and the dishing of slaps before the security officers managed to restore order.

Ernest Arthur’s confirmation process had earlier generated much discussion after he fails to be confirmed notwithstanding the fact that the Central Regional Minister had pleaded on her knees to the assembly members to confirm him.

Later some aggrieved assembly members accused the MCE nominee then of bribing them and promised to return the money. They resolved to continue to reject him.

Today though, Mr Arthur has been confirmed exceeding the minimum requirement with three votes.

However, some assembly members have indicated that the election may have been rigged in his favour.

MyNewsGh.com gathered that armed police personnel including Presiding Member(PM) also prevented Member of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast South, Mr. Kwaku Ricketts Hagan from monitoring the counting process.

Though voting went on smoothly, when it got to the counting, armed police personnel attacked NDC members including the MPs and some Assembly Members who were trying to monitor the counting process.
