Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has reiterated government’s commitment to making education better in the country.
Delivering a public lecture on digital economy on Tuesday, November 2 at Ashesi University, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia said government is set to roll out an initiative that will provide tablets for every Senior High School student in the country.
“Our next goal ladies and gentlemen is to provide tablets to high school students and we have started working with publishers and the idea is to pre-load all the tablets that we will provide the students with all the required textbooks so that we don’t have to keep buying textbooks and they can have them digitally available on their tablets for learning,” the Vice President stated.
In his address, the Vice President stressed that government will not leave out the education sector in its drive to digitize all sectors of the economy.
“To make our education sector is not left out of the digital revolution, we are providing free Wi-Fi to our senior high schools. We have provided free WiFi to 710 senior high schools in Ghana, 46 colleges of education, 260 district education offices, and 13 public universities.
“We have also provided 350,000 teachers with laptops under the One Teacher One Laptop Policy. So for teachers, the writing of lesson notes into notebooks is over because the curriculum materials are already installed on the laptops,” Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia added.
Amongst the many strides he touched on during the lecture, the Vice President mentioned achievements in health particularly the use of drones to provide health delivery.
