The Eastern Regional Police Command has started investigations into the circumstances that lead to the death of a 44-year-old Police Sergeant, Emmanuel Asiedu.

The late Asiedu, a member of the police SWAT team stationed in the Eastern Region was found dead in his Adjeiwa Lodge residence in Koforidua on March 31 this year.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer in charge of the Eastern Region, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh stated that on March 31 the police had information that a policeman had been found dead at his Adjeiwa Lodge residence.

According to him, policemen rushed to the place and upon enquiries entered the room and found him dead on his bed in a room.

DSP Tetteh indicated that the body was in a supine position wearing a blue-black jeans and a pair of shoes.

The Police PRO said that there was some dried foam on his mouth and some blackish dried substances smeared on all over his face.

He said there were no marks to indicate any form of violence visited on the deceased body.

The body, DSP Tetteh stated had since been deposited at the Eastern Regional Hospital Morgue at Koforidua for autopsy.

In a related development, the Eastern Regional Police Command is also investigating a shooting incident at Asunafo in the Atiwa West District where one person died while eight others sustained gunshots wounds on Friday, April 1.

According to DSP Tetteh, preliminary investigations established that the shooting incident occurred during a clash between two factions in the community.

He said the incident was over mining activity in the area.

In the course of the incident, DSP Tetteh explained that in all, nine persons sustained gunshots wounds and were rushed to the Enyirensi Government Hospital where one of them was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Eastern Regional Police led by the Commander, DCOP Anderson Fosu-Ackaah visited the community and the hospital where the remaining eight persons were receiving medical treatment.

The Police PRO indicated that the Regional Divisional and District Police Patrol teams had been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.

He urged the residents of the Asunafo to volunteer information to the police that would lead to the arrest of the suspects who were currently on the run.
