The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has entreated personnel to step-up efforts to ensure a significant reduction of fire and related incidents.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO) Alhaji Gibril Nuhu, the Accra Regional Commander, said it was the mandate of the Region to reduce fires and asked that everyone, including the public, played his or her part responsibly.

He said there was the need for personnel to also join the crusade by educating people on the do’s and don’ts of fire prevention so that no fire would be recorded at all.

DCFO Nuhu said when this was effectively done, it would change the attitudes of the people and ultimately help in achieving the target of reducing fire by 80 per cent.

He assured that the Region was poised to support the public to assiduously work to reduce fires through its continuous and intensified public education.

DCFO Nuhu made the call at a send-off ceremony for 18 retired officers of the service organised by the Greater Accra Regional Welfare Fund of the Ghana National Fire Service.

DCFO Nuhu commended the retirees for their outstanding, commitment and dedicated service to the nation and requested them to always avail themselves of occasions to tap into their rich experiences.

He also congratulated all personnel for their enormous contributions to the region since the beginning of the year despite the challenges.

The retirees received a citation and a chest freezer each as part of their retirement package.

DCFO Robert Fiadzo, the Director of Research and ICT GNFS, representing the Chief Fire Officer (CFO), also congratulated the retired officers for the good work done over the period.

He advised the retirees not to forget the friends they made while serving and also remember the service which made them what they were today since the best part of their lives was in the service.
