The Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Lawyer Andrew Egyapa Mercer, has donated an amount of $6,000 to support the surgery of a 29-year-old lady who is battling a hole-in-heart condition in his constituency.
The young lady, Anas Ansah Adu, has been diagnosed with a hole-in-heart disease, a condition which has rendered her inactive for some time now.
According to her family, an amount of $9,000 is needed by the Korle Bu Teaching hospital for a successful surgery.
Her family has been helpless since efforts to raise the money needed for the surgery have proven unsuccessful.
An intervention by the MP who doubles as the Deputy Minister for Energy has brought back hope to the family.
Presenting the money, Lawyer Andrew Egyapa Mercer indicated that he treated the case as an emergency and consulted a few friends for assistance.
“I received documents indicating a young lady in my constituency was battling cardiac arrest and that she has been sent to Korle-Bu and a bill of USD 9,000 is needed for urgent surgery. When I heard of it, I decided to contact a few friends who can support for us to save the life of the young lady. I have received support of USD 4,000 from one of the managing directors I informed. I have also added USD 2000, and we all hope this will go a long way to save the life of the young lady,” he indicated.
Receiving the money, Alfred Kojo Jackson, the father of the patient, expressed gratitude to the MP for the support extended to his daughter.
According to him, the family is currently burdened since efforts to raise the money have been unsuccessful.
“On behalf of my family, I want to extend our gratitude to wherever this money is coming from. May God almighty bless you and whoever supported my daughter. The bill for the surgery is USD 9, 000, we have been looking everywhere but help was not coming, now that Our MP has brought this money, we shall find an ambulance tomorrow and send her to the hospital for the surgery to begin.”
