National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Chairpersons in the Greater Accra Region have declared their support for former President, John Mahama ato become the Flagbearer of the party.

Their support follows the formal declaration by Mr. Mahama to join in the party’s flagbearer race.

They have described the upcoming primary in December as a mere formality for the former President.

“All greater Accra Chairmen were at the national party headquarters to endorse… so we are endorsing John Mahama. We have gotten in touch with the other regions and we are giving him 96 percent of the internal Flagbearer primaries that we are going for,” the Okai Koi North Chairman, Fiifi Taylor, said to Citi News.

The Okai Koi Central Chairman, Ibrahim Musah, said his fellow executives were supporting Mr. Mahama “because of the legacy he has left. We all know what His Excellency John Mahama has done. For the good people of NDC, I say he is the best bet.”

“What we are saying is for the Greater Accra Chairmen Caucus, we are fully behind him and what we are going to do is just a formality. He is going to win hands down,” the Ayawaso East Chairman, General Olabode Williams, added.

Support from Regional Chairmen, MPs

The 10 Regional Chairmen of the NDC also backed the candidature of Mr. Mahama for election 2020 before he had even made an announcement.

The 10 regional chairman, after a meeting at the time, issued a communique in which they urged the former President to consider running for the 2020 polls.

Ninety-four NDC MPs out of the Minority Caucus of 106 also endorsed Mr. Mahama as the flagbearer for the 2020 polls prior to his announcement.

The list of the MPs backing himwas made public after he made his intention to contest public.

A statement from the MPs said: “As Members of Parliament, we would like to express our profound gratitude to His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama for hearkening to the cries of our Constituents which we presented to him when we met him four (4) months ago. Our Constituents had one simple message – President Mahama should avail himself to the people of Ghana to salvage the sinking ship under Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Today He has heeded the clarion call of the people and we are grateful.”
