Aggrieved serial callers of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti region will stop at nothing until their grievances are addressed by the party’s leadership.
They claim some appointees and party executives in the region are living flamboyant lifestyles less than two years in office whiles they continue to wallow in poverty; insisting that they also deserve their share of goodies for contributing to the 2016 electoral fortunes of the party.
“We see them every day splashing monies on their girlfriends and living big and large but we continue to defend government policies and programmes on radio with empty stomachs. Enough of the suffering we deserve better now”, a spokesperson of the group told a Kumasi-based radio station.
According to them, they suspect someone continuously diverts the resources meant for them or the party’s leadership is oblivious of the fact that they played and continue to play a key role in its stay in government.
After burning their phones, SIM cards and other cadges on Wednesday, they promised to hit the streets with unrestrained demonstrations to register their displeasure in the unfair treatment being meted out to them by both the government and the party leadership.
“We will forward a petition to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and let him know that his appointees and party executives will fail him because they are refusing to take care of the grassroots and only lavishing the wealth they have acquired on their girlfriends and families”, they warned.
Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah has described them as ungrateful in view of the fact that he has done what is required to keep them going.
Responding to calls by the serial callers for his sack, the minister said “They can do their worse. If I am a regional minister does it mean just anyone can insult me?” He asked.
“I have organized my colleagues to use our salaries to pay them, is this my reward? That they are now attacking me? They sit on the internet and say ‘nonsense’ things against me. I want them to know that if I am sacked I won’t eat stone. Yes. When I used to help them and feed some of them in opposition, was I a regional minister? What is this?” The minister said.
